SALTDOGS BASEBALL: Lincoln Drops Series Finale To Kansas City

LINCOLN–(May 31)–Nate Samson had three hits but the Saltdogs fell 10-3 to the Kansas City Monarchs in the rubber match at Haymarket Park on Wednesday night.
Samson had a two-run double that missed leaving the ballpark by a foot in the 3rd inning, and the three hits were a season high.
Kansas City (10-8) opened the scoring with two runs in the 1st inning. 1B Jan Hernandez hit an RBI single and C Chris Herrmann added an RBI fielder’s choice.
The Saltdogs (7-11) answered with a run in the bottom of the 1st on a two-out single from DH Will Kengor.
The Monarchs took control with six runs in the 3rd inning. Hernandez hit an RBI double and later scored when 3B Edwin Diaz added an RBI single. DH Keon Broxton hit a two-run triple and 2B Olivier Basabe hit a two-run homer.
Samson’s double got Lincoln within 8-3 in the 3rd, but Hernandez added a sacrifice fly in the 7th and an RBI single in the 9th.
LHP John Bezdicek allowed eight runs in five innings but retired the final seven batters he faced. LHP Steffon Moore tossed a 1-2-3 8th inning and lowered his ERA to 1.08.
The ‘Dogs now head on the road for six games, with three in Fargo and three in Kansas City. First pitch from Newman Outdoor Field on Friday is scheduled for 7:02 p.m. and pregame coverage begins at 6:30 p.m. on KFOR FM 101.5/1240 AM.
