LINCOLN–(KFOR Sept. 10)–Two men early Tuesday morning allegedly broke into the driver’s side door of a vehicle parked in a driveway near 33rd and St. Paul and tried to steal it.

Lincoln Police Public Information Manager Erika Thomas tells KFOR News the victim happened to see what was going on and yelled freeze at both suspects, then fired three shots from a handgun, with two of the rounds found in the vehicle. It’s not clear if the third bullet hit one of the suspects.

Thomas says both suspects fled the area heading north. They are described as males, about 6-foot to 6-foot-2, 18 to 25-years-old, thin builds wearing all black and one had a red shirt underneath.

Damage to the handle of the driver’s side door and steering column is estimated at $2,000.  As the investigation continues, it hasn’t been determined if the victim will be cited for firing a weapon.
