Two Fires in Less Than 12 Hours Keep Lincoln Firefighters Busy
LINCOLN–(KFOR Dec. 5)–Lincoln Fire and Rescue had a busy stretch between late Wednesday night and Thursday morning in handling a couple of significant fires across the city.
It was around 9:30pm Wednesday, that LFR crews were called to a two-alarm house fire near 23rd and Washington after they received several reports of flames coming from the roof. Once they arrived, firefighters found flames on the backside, apparently originating from a second-story bedroom.
“Had a really great stop on this fire and minimized the damage to the structure,” LFR public information officer MJ Lierman told KFOR News early Thursday. Damage estimates are around $150,000. No word yet on the cause of that fire.
Then around 7:45am Thursday, reports of black smoke coming from southwest of 33rd and Cornhusker were called into LFR.
Firefighters found three cargo trailers attached to each other and the middle one was on fire. Because of this, it was difficult for crews to access the blaze and be able to get water on it. Lierman says 500 gallons of water were released, but it still didn’t put out the smoke completely. She says firefighters were having to cut into the trailer and remove items to prevent the fire from spreading further.
Two people who were in the trailer were taken to the hospital with burn injuries. No word yet on the extent of those injuries.
Investigators are still determining the cause of the fire and how much damage was done.
