(KFOR NEWS  October 7, 2019)   Residents have until Monday, October 14 to take an online survey that will be used to help determine the street projects to be funded with the new voter-approved quarter-cent sales tax.  The survey is available at streets.lincoln.ne.gov.

Voters approved the sales tax increase in April, and it went into effect October 1. The tax will be in effect for six years and is expected to generate $13 million for streets annually. The City will begin to receive the revenue in December, and the first work to be funded by the new dollars will begin in the spring of 2020.

The 14-member Advisory Committee on Transportation (ACT) appointed by the Mayor is scheduled to make its recommendations by the end of October on the priority street projects for the first year of construction.  The Committee also held five open houses to hear from residents on the projects they would like to see.

In November, the public will have another opportunity to comment on the ACT recommendations when the City Council holds a public hearing and considers amendments to the City’s Capital Improvement Plan.
