LINCOLN–(KFOR Nov. 1)–Millard North had to grind things out in the second half in order to pickup a 10-3 victory over Lincoln Southeast on Friday night at Seacrest Field in the opening round of the Class A State Football playoffs.

The Mustangs (6-4) now play No. 2 seed Millard North in the quarterfinals on Nov. 8.  Southeast ends the season at 7-3.

Millard North scored all of their points in the second quarter, including a 32-yard field goal from Alexander Michaud.  The Mustangs later took a 10-0 lead after Collin Bogacz scored on a five-yard touchdown run.

Southeast tried going for a fake field goal with five seconds left before halftime, which resulted in Tre Bollen throwing a pass that was swatted down by Mustang defender Noah Magnuson.

The Knights came out strong to start the third quarter, which saw running back Cash Buettenback sprint for a 48-yard gain.  The eight-play drive was capped off on a 18-yard field goal from Maddox Brock to get Southeast on the board, trailing 10-3 with 9:31 left in the third.

One of the most disappointing endings for Southeast came when the Knights advanced the football to the Millard North 7-yard line, but Buettenback’s touchdown run was called back because of a holding penalty.

Buettenback finished with 25 carries for 212 yards in his final game in a Southeast football uniform.  He had 10 rushes for 121 yards in the third quarter.  Defensively in the game, Buettenback had six tackles and a sack.
