LINCOLN–(KFOR/News Release Oct. 30)–More than 23,000 students from across Lincoln and area schools cast their electronic ballots on Wednesday as part of Student Vote.

KFOR, along with sister station KFRX have collaborated Lincoln Public Schools since 1992, giving students the chance to participate in a mock election using some of the races on the local ballot that voters will see Nov. 5. Students in grades four through 12 at every LPS school use their Chromebooks to cast their vote.

A record number 23,103 ballots were cast during Student Vote. Here are the results for 2024:

  • Initiative 436 asks voters to approve providing eligible employees the right to earn paid sick time. During Student Vote, the measure passed with 18,923 voting for, and 3,301 voting against.

  • In the United States Representative for Congress District 1 race between incumbent Mike Flood and challenger Carol Blood, Flood is declared the winner of Student Vote with 11,881 votes for Flood and 10,258 votes for Blood.

  • In the two-year term U.S. Senate Race between incumbent Pete Ricketts and challenger Preston Love Jr., Love is the winner with 11,775 votes for Love and 10,324 votes for Ricketts.

  • In the six-year term U.S. Senate Race between incumbent Deb Fischer and challenger Dan Osborn, Osborn is the winner with 14,317 votes for Osborn and 7,883 votes for Fischer.

  • In the presidential race among Donald Trump, Kamala Harris and Chase Oliver, Harris is declared the winner of 2024 LPS Student Vote with 11,486 votes for Harris, 10,288 votes for Trump, and 1,115 votes for Oliver.
