SPRAGUE–(KFOR Dec. 17)–A deadly crash late Monday night near Sprague has claimed the life of a 78-year-old Martell woman.

According to a news release from the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office, the crash happened near SW 29th and West Panama Road, near the Spring Branch Creek bridge, and deputies were alerted about a notification from OnStar. The victim, Sharon Gana was able to talk to dispatch and she apparently hit something, deploying an airbag and trapping her in the vehicle.

Deputies say Gana was conscious and alert, extricated from her vehicle and taken by StarCare helicopter to Bryan West in Lincoln. She was later pronounced dead around 1:30am Tuesday.

Investigators say Gana’s vehicle was eastbound on West Panama Road, drove into the north ditch and hit a concrete structure that’s part of the bridge. Seat belt was in use and alcohol is not suspected to be involved.
