LINCOLN–(KFOR Oct. 29)–A 33-year-old Lincoln man on Tuesday was sentenced to life in prison in the 2003 death of a 22-month-old boy.

Joshua Tackett was convicted in July on two counts of intentional child abuse resulting in death and distribution of a controlled substance near a school. The young boy was taken to a Lincoln hospital in March 2023, where staff noticed signs of abuse. The child was transported to Children’s Hospital in Omaha, where he died.

Court documents say the boy’s mother told Lincoln Police she noticed bruises and other injuries, after she started dating Tackett. The mother, 31-year-old Brittany Cook, is set to be sentenced next month, after she was found guilty of child abuse resulting in death, resulting in injury and possession among other offenses.
