LINCOLN–(KFOR Aug. 28)–Lincoln Police on Sept. 5 will be honoring the memory of LPD Investigator Mario Herrera, with the 12 Days of Hope Blood Drive, as they team up with the Nebraska Community Blood Bank and Lincoln Fire and Rescue.

The 12 Days of Hope Blood Drive next Thursday will be from 8am to 1:30pm outside the Hall of Justice at 9th and “K” Street, where the community is invited to come donate.  Assistant Lincoln Police Chief Jason Stille said when Investigator Herrera was shot in the line of duty on August 26, 2020, blood donations helped keep him alive in the hospital for 12 days until his passed on Sept. 7, 2020.

If you can’t make it that day, Stille said community members can donate blood at one of NCBB’s four donor centers in Lincoln and Omaha throughout September in honor of the 9/11 Day of Service.

Stille says please use the code word “SERVICE” when scheduling a donation time through your Hero Hub profile at this link:  NCBB Hero Hub.
