Lincoln Fire and Rescue (LFR) invites the public to a ribbon cutting ceremony for Station 12 at 3:30 p.m., Tuesday, October 15, 4405 S. 84th St. Visitors are invited to tour the new station following the ceremony and remarks by Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird. Refreshments will be served.

LFR also announced Breanna Longoria as the winner of the “Learn Not to Burn” poster contest. Longoria is a student at Randolph Elementary in Treyson McGill’s fourth-grade class. Longoria’s poster will be on display at the ceremony and will be displayed for one month in the first-floor lobby of the County-City Building, 555 S. 10th St. Longoria’s winning art also earned her a ride to school in a fire truck.

The contest was open to all fourth-grade students in Lincoln as part of Fire Prevention Week, October 6 through 12. The theme for 2019 was “Not Every Hero Wears a Cape. Plan and Practice Your Escape.” Fire Prevention Week was established to commemorate the Great Chicago Fire on October 10, 1871 that killed more than 250 people, left 100,000 homeless, destroyed more than 17,400 structures and burned more than 2,000 acres.
