LINCOLN–(KFOR June 21)–Thunderstorms are being blamed for a fire at a southwest Lincoln home around 6am Friday, after lightning struck the roof.

Lincoln Fire and Rescue was called to a two-story home in the 6800 block of South Ridge Drive, near 27th and Pine Lake Road. LFR spokesperson Nancy Crist says their crews had to fight the fire from the ground, because of constant lightning.

“They used a transitional attack, so they are able to get the fire out from the outside and then they go inside and look for damage there,” Crist said.

A man inside the house heard the loud boom of the thunder, ran out and saw the roof on fire.  He and his two children got out safely.

Crist says damage estimates are at $50,000 and the family will have to be relocated temporarily.
