HUSKER FOOTBALL: Barney Named Big Ten Freshman of The Week
Nebraska freshman wide receiver Jacory Barney Jr. was named Big Ten Football Freshman of the Week Monday for his performance in Nebraska’s 44-25 win over Wisconsin to become bowl eligible. Barney had nine catches for 85 yards in the win over the Badgers and had a career-high 45-yard kickoff return.
Millard South Captures Class A Football Title
Millard South won the Class A State Football Championship on Monday night for the first time since 2009, after the Patriots rallied to beat two-time defending state champion Omaha Westside 27-10 at Memorial Stadium. In eight-man action Monday, Sandy Creek won the Class D1 State Championship and Central Valley captured the Class D2 crown. On Tuesday, defending state champ Norfolk Catholic squares off with Wahoo Neumann for the C2 state title at 10:15am, followed by Wahoo and Central City for the C1 state championship at 2:45pm and three-time defending state champ Bennington plays Omaha Skutt in Class B at 7:15pm.
Reilly Earns Big Ten Setter of the Week Honor
Nebraska sophomore Bergen Reilly was named Big Ten Volleyball Co-Setter of the Week on Monday for the second week in a row. It’s her fifth weekly honor of the season and the ninth of her career.
Beason, Krause, Blackwell Among Huskers Selected in PVF Draft
Nebraska volleyball players Merritt Beason, Lindsay Krause and Leyla Blackwell on Monday were selected in the Pro Volleyball Federation draft. Beason was the No. 1 overall pick selected by the Atlanta Vibe, coached by former Husker Kayla Banwarth. Krause was picked 19th overall by the Omaha Supernovas, as was former Husker and USC volleyball player Ally Batenhorst, who went 15th overall. Blackwell was picked by the San Diego Mojo 26th overall. Creighton’s Norah Sis was the third overall pick by Orlando and Bluejay teammate Kendra Wait was picked 37th overall by the Supernovas.
