(KFOR NEWS October 8, 2019) A newly published study in the JAMA finds up to a quarter of all United States health care spending is wasteful.
Researchers found $760 to $935 billion health care dollars are wasted every year. The biggest driver is administrative issues related to billing and coding, representing about 1/3 of total waste. The second greatest contributor is waste related to drug and service pricing caused by a lack of transparency and competitive markets.
Other factors include over-treatment, unnecessary hospital visits, and lack of preventative care.
