LINCOLN–(KFOR Dec. 11)–Lincoln Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Paul Gausman on Tuesday night addressed his pending retirement from the position at the end of the month.

During a Lincoln Board of Education meeting, Gausman thanked staff across the district for their work in his two-and-a-half years on the job. He says that includes growth in enrollment back to pre-pandemic levels and growth in high school enrollment in the career academy and focus programs.

“Our latest four-year graduation rate increased by nearly 4%. We’ve implemented student behavior initiatives that are truly making a difference,” Gausman said.  He also mentioned about programs for staff retention, recruitment and culture.

In an agreement signed with LPS this week, Gausman agreed to be reassigned to a “non-superintendent administrator position” within the school district starting Dec. 27. The district also agreed to pay him $83,430 in “separation pay” on top of his $333,720 annual salary. He’ll spend six months in that position until he officially retires next June.

Dr. Liz Standish, the LPS associate superintendent for business affairs, will step in as superintendent until an interim superintendent is chosen in January.
