LINCOLN–(KFOR Aug. 29)–Road tripping this weekend for a final getaway this summer? Some good news for you when it comes to prices at the fuel pump. According to Triple A Nebraska public affairs specialist Brian Ortner, Nebraska is a great spot for gas prices this year.

“A year ago, we had $3.58 as a statewide average,” Ortner told KFOR News. “Today, $3.16 is the average across the state to fill up your gas tank.”

That’s about 40 cents lower from the Labor Day weekend a year ago. Ortner also tells KFOR News the overall blockbuster travel numbers for this year are continuing into the Labor Day weekend.

“Overall, domestic travel is up over 9% compared to last year for this Labor Day,” Ortner added.

Ortner says that Triple A is offering their Tow to Go program. It’s recommended you have a ride planned ahead, but if you have too much to drink and your arrangement falls through at the last minute, a tow truck is dispatched to transport the vehicle and its owner to a safe location within a 10-mile radius. This service is free, regardless of whether the caller is a AAA member. Tow to Go is active from 6 pm Friday until 6am Tuesday.
