LINCOLN–(KFOR Jan. 10)–Lincoln Police are investigating a reported arson along the Rock Island Bike Trail late Thursday night, where a metal can and paper had been set on fire under a tree near 33rd and Sheridan.

The can erupted and scattered across the trail, according to LPD public information manager Erika Thomas. She also said a few hours later, officers found another scene on the trail about a mile away near 27th and Nebraska Parkway. A plastic bottle stuffed with work gloves and multiple live rounds of ammo was found.

The bottle also had been set on fire, but a witness put it out with a jacket. The device appeared to have detonated, according to Thomas.

The investigation is ongoing.
