I was surprised by the news that KISS has sold off their name, logo, image and likeness rights and their share of the bands music catalog.

I’m sure you’re thinking “Oh it’s just Gene trying to make more money.” I don’t believe that’s the reason. This is all tied to the avatar KISS shows that we’ll get to see in future.
