$1.1 Million In Bridge Repair Costs Announced

Lancaster County Commissioners voted Tuesday to spend nearly $1 ,100,000 dollars to replace four flood-damaged rural bridges.

Lancaster County Engineer Pam Dingman said Bridge D-88 on Agnew Rd. east of Highway 79 has “been a problem child bridge since the flooding.” Dingman stated the $184 thousand dollar cost of that bridge will be reimbursed by the federal government. Dingman explained that the repair of D-88 “is emergency work that has been approved by the Federal Highway Administration because it is a federal aid route and is 100% reimbursable.”

Another $912 thousand dollars will be used to replace three bridges in the southwestern part of the county with box culverts.

“These are three bridges are in the southwest quadrant of the county and are close together,” said Dingman. “They are bundled together and will be replaced by box culverts, which is about a third of the price of a bridge.”

Dingman stated they have completed one of the box culverts but have not had enough dry weather to complete the others. “We haven’t been able to pick up dirt or materials again and build more, so it will completely depend on getting some dry weather,” said Dingman.”
